A. REGISTRATION TO BECOME A MEMBER

  1. To be an ordinary member of the Institute (MNIP), a person shall be
first actively engaged in practicing or teaching Physics or related
scientific field for a period not less than five years. In addition,
the person shall possess any of the following qualifications:
  • Graduate of Physics or Physics related discipline acceptable to Council.
  • Other qualifications approved by Council.
  • Transfer from Associate Membership.
  • A candidate for election, as Associate Member of the Institute
(AMNIP) shall be actively engaged in practicing or teaching Physics or
related scientific field for a period less than five years. In
addition, the person shall possess any of the following
qualifications:
  • Graduate of Physics or Physics related discipline acceptable to Council.
  • Other qualifications approved by Council.
  • Transfer from student membership.
  • Any applicant for student membership must be a post-graduate or
undergraduate student of Physics or Physics related field approved by
Council in good standing at a recognized degree awarding institution.
Eligibility for student membership shall terminate at the close of the
calendar year in which the student member ceases to be a postgraduate
or undergraduate student.
  • Honorary Fellowship shall be conferred on persons who in the
opinion of Council, have made outstanding contributions to the
advancement of Physics and Science in general through service to
society. The acronym shall be Hon. FNIP.
  • Corporate membership shall be granted to corporations, companies
and Institutions of higher learning which, in the opinion of Council,
have contributed to the advancement of Physics and Science in general.

B. ELECTION AND TRANSFER OF MEMBERS

  1. The election or admission of members into the Institute, or the
transfer of membership from one category to another shall be by
Council.
  2. No transfer of membership into the fellowship grade or honorary
fellowship grade shall be allowed.

C. Proposal for any person being considered for election into the
FELLOWSHIP grade (FNIP) after filling the NIP Form, must be signed by
two members of Council and forwarded to the General Secretary along
with the Curriculum Vitae. The proposal shall, on presentation to
Council be considered and approved by at least two-thirds of votes of
members present at the Council meeting. Such approval shall be
notified to the candidate in writing and a formal conferment carried
out at the next Annual Conference or at such other time as may be
directed by Council. The number of Fellows to be elected in any given
year shall be at the discretion of Council.

D.

  1. The proposal form for ordinary membership shall be endorsed by at
least two ordinary members in good standing.
  2. The proposal form for Associate membership shall be signed by at
least two ordinary members in good standing.
  3. The proposal form for student membership shall be signed by the
Head of his/her Department.
  4. Proposal for any person being considered for Honorary Fellowship
shall be as laid down as above except that no Curriculum Vitae of the
candidate shall be required.
  5. The Council will normally invite organizations and institutions
into the corporate membership. But where an organization or
institution applies to become a corporate member, the proposal form
must be signed by at least two members of Council.
  6. The proposal form duly completed shall be forwarded to the Council
through the General Secretary for consideration.
  7. An applicant whose membership is approved by two-thirds of the
Council membership present at the Council meeting at which his
proposal is considered shall be deemed elected or admitted and shall
be notified accordingly.
  8. No election shall take place until the applicant shall have paid
all fees incidental to his application.
  9. ALL applicants for consideration into any of the categories of
membership shall fill the prescribed NIP form, as attached.
