NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS’ TRIBUTE TO LATE PROFESSOR EMMANUEL EMEKA OKWUEZE, FNIP: The Untimely Exit of a Physics Icon

With gratitude to God, but with heavy hearts, the Council of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) and the entire membership of the Institute, sadly announce the untimely exit of our colleague, friend, and past President, Prof Emmanuel Emeka Okwueze, FNIP who passed on to eternal glory on the 21st November, 2019 after a brief illness.

Prof E.E. Okwueze, a Fellow of the NIP, is until his call to glory the longest serving Council member of the NIP. He has held several offices in NIP including Secretary General, Vice President, President and lastly as an Ex-Officio. Prof Okwueze was assuming the toga of NIP personified before his demise. He is a stabilizing factor within the Council and during the Institute’s Annual General Meetings and was one whose views were always sought after in major decisions taken. He is a forthright person, firm yet very accommodating. As a result of his ever dynamic mien and how he is always fond of engaging everyone, Prof Okwueze easily passes as an intermediary between the old and the younger generation members of the Institute.

Prof E.E. Okwueze is renowned GEOPHYSICISTS and has taught and examined at various universities, with the country, the University of Calabar being his last post. He has produced several professors across the nation’s universities and his intellect is sought after nationwide.

May the amiable and gentle soul of this physics icon, a gift to the physics family, find rest in the bosom of the Lord. The Physics family all over the world will miss you, your wisdom, fatherly advice and intelligent contributions. Adieu Professor E.E. Okwueze, FNIP.
