The mission of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (formed in 1977) is to create a forum for the exchange of scientific knowledge among physicists and other professionals, to serve as a body for the provision of intellectual materials for the teaching of physics at the secondary school and tertiary levels, to be involved in the moderation and accreditation of physics programmes in all levels of education in Nigeria, to assist the industries and ministries and departments and agencies of government achieve success in the national science and technology policy of the government of Nigeria, thereby serving as an agent for the technological advancement of Nigeria.
